2020 Will Be Awesome

It’s been a while since I last checked in. I’ve been traveling and writing and taking pictures. I grappled with how to share this adventure and in the process, discovered a new medium – a travel calendar to highlight the journey in pictures.

In April, I flew to Salt Lake City and picked up a small Camper-Van that I found on RVShare.com.

It had just enough room for a gas stove, fresh water, pots, pans, dishes and silverware, a queen-size bed, small built-in table with bench seats, storage for food, an electric refrigerator, and solar panels for electric service. The passenger seat swiveled to face the interior of the camper. To make the trip more fun and adventurous, I rented a bicycle, bike rack and a porta potty, just in case.

My route took me in a loop around the state of Utah with stops at Palisade State Park, Fremont Indian State Park, Cedar City, Zion National Park, Kodachrome State Park, Escalante State Park, Edge of Cedars State Park, Moab, Arches National Park, Provo and back to Salt Lake City where I visited Temple Square of the Mormon Church and participated in an Elizabeth Warren townhall.

The rest of the month included a drive from Boise to Portland, Oregon, a Cubs vs Mariners game in Seattle and a 48-hour Amtrak Empire Builder voyage through seven states, arriving back in Glenview, Illinois just a mile from home. I was gone for 30 days – not nearly enough time to go into depth but more than enough to see, hear, taste, touch and smell some highlights in the Western United States. Adventures R US.
